I was upping comics on the webstore… yeah, I know I’m a night owl… and I came across soem Incredible Hulk issues which drag me back to my childhood. It’s no secret that the Incredible Hulk is how I was srawn into the underbelly of the comic world… I was 10 years old and in the 4th grade. I was buying Incredible Hulk on a regular basis, back issues from an antique store in my home town. Moderately priced even now. Well, I wanted to get newer issues and had no local comic shop yet. The best thing I was doing was buying comic at Cow Town or my Grandmother and Grandfather would take me to 711 to buy comics off the rack. (back when you could buy comics like that in convience stores).
So one year, my mother buys me a Marvel Comics Subscription to the Incredible Hulk! I couldn’t wait for my first issue! I simply couldn’t! Here I had just gotten issue 344… and was waiting and waiting and well… one day the first issue arrived and to my dismay… it was issue 346? And I was completely lost. Apparently the Hulk ‘died’ in 345? What the hell? So I ran down to the local video store and bought 345… it was double sized and cost about $1.50! I had to be my mother for the money. (I never had an allowance!)
So I remember month after month for a year I would get the newest Incredible Hulk mailed to me… Late mind you! I always saw it in the comic shop about a week before I ended up with. And they would come 3rd Class Mail so some would be folded and bent. I’ll tell you, those issues are the worst issues I have in my collection condition wise… but the funnest! I have the best memories about the Incredible Hulk from issues 346-358… (Cause I got 2 extra issues with my subscription!)
Just a 3:30 am rant…
